Sleeping Arrangements
The Shepherd’s Hut is an open-plan space, with the double bed tucked away at the back of the hut on a mezzanine. It's separated by an internal window (see photos), creating a cosy, intimate sleeping area. The mattress is a comfy, firm double futon, and bedding is provided for a restful night’s sleep.
The sofa, which comfortably seats 3-4 people, can also be transformed into an additional single bed. It's long enough for taller guests and comes with a comfy mattress, pillows, duvet, and several cosy throws stored conveniently in the drawer beneath. There’s even a large dog bed under the sofa for your furry companions.
Living & Dining Space
The hut is designed with plenty of room to relax and entertain. The seating area can accommodate around 5 people, with two seats by the fire and a large sofa. It’s the perfect spot to enjoy a cosy evening with friends or family, surrounded by the warmth of the fire and comfortable seating.
Kitchen Facilities
The Shepherd’s Hut includes a fully functioning kitchen with all the essentials:
Two-hob gas cooker
Oven
Fridge (with freezer compartment)
Pots, pans, cafétière, and kettle
Cooking utensils and sharp knives, including a bread knife
Cutlery and basic ingredients like salt, pepper, cooking oil, and spices
Power for the kitchen comes from a solar panel, providing lighting and a converter that powers the three mains wall sockets and the fridge. A candelabra and candles are provided, adding a touch of charm, along with books and musical instruments (guitar and ukulele) for your enjoyment.
Water & Washing Up
There is no running water inside the hut, but just outside is a 25L water container with a tap provided for your convenience, as well as a sink that also has hot water. For washing up, a sheltered station with a sink is located at the side of the hut, and a large kettle is available for heating water on the stove. Dish soap and sponges are also provided to make clean-up simple.
Outdoor Space
Outside the hut, you’ll find a large, flat area perfect for relaxing. There is a stunning new decking and fireplace area where 5 outdoor chairs and a table sit, ideal for meals or enjoying the surroundings. Firewood and kindling are available to purchase at the campsite for your convenience.
The hut is situated in a secluded part of the campsite, surrounded by a large dug-out area with sloping grass sides, ensuring privacy from the rest of the site (see photos). The campsite is rarely crowded, especially during the low season or weekdays, making it a peaceful retreat. Weekends during summer see no more than ten groups of campers, so it never feels cramped.
Facilities
You’ll share the showers and toilets with other campers, but the facilities are excellent, with good pressure and plenty of hot water. The toilets are regularly cleaned, and toilet paper is provided.
Guest Access & Parking
The Shepherd’s Hut is located at the bottom of the field.
To reach it:
Drive through the car park, past the second barn, and follow the gravel track to the hut.
There is a spacious parking area at the end of the track, and you can park right outside the hut. However, if it has been wet, getting to the hut by car can be challenging, so it’s recommended to leave your car in the designated parking area, which is only a 1-minute walk from the hut.
Accessibility
The Shepherd’s Hut is elevated from the ground and accessed by a short staircase (see photos). For the main bed, you’ll need to climb onto the fireplace unit before stepping onto the bed. A sturdy block of wood is provided to act as a stool, making it easier to access the bed.
